i've just been told that my elder drinking pal, mr dub-in-the-pub, has been raided by the dss.

apparently he's been drawing invalidity benefit for the last 15 years (why?

) and hasn't informed social security that he's also in full time work.

My Story

i was raised in a catholic family in toronto and went to catholic schools until grade 9 (age 13).

Hi Chris,

Just thought I'd let you know as a man I tend to read all the long winded posts (only kidding). Whilst I am mildly interested in the doctrinal inconsistencies of the Borg, it is the human cost in terms of broken families that gets me every time.

One of the things I required after exiting the Borg was professional counselling to put my head back together. My counsellor told me that she, despite her years of training and experience, found it difficult to assess the damage done by the Witnesses disfellowshipping policy.

So how can these elders who know jack shit about psychology and mental health being to understand what a person is going through when they facing/experiencing disfellowshipping.

All the doctrinal fallacies of the Watchtower fade into insignificance when compared with the truly appalling human cost of the Watchtowers dfing policy over the past 50 years. That alone disqualifies them from being Gods channel on earth.

Could you imagine Jesus Christ that we read of in the gospels acting in such an arrogant, stuck up, self serving way.

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

To quote Winston Smith in "1984":

"I understand HOW, but I do not understand WHY".

The mechanics of what makes the Watchtower Organisation tick is obvious for all those who care to look. But what I cannot understand is WHY they do it.

As the world becomes more globalised and people are able to obtain any information they want at a click, drag and download, WHY does the Watchtower Organisation persist in carrying on in its old ways.

Is it just pure power? Do the Governing Body truly in themselves believe they are speaking to mankind as Gods' only channel on Earth?
WHY don't they acknowledge the error of their doctrine as it is demonstrably flawed?

WHY do they insist that being Gods' divine channel they identify that we are in the last days, but every few years have to adjust their "light" to accomodate changing world circumstances? Is God so unsure of himself that he needs to use and imperfect orgnisation whose time prophecies that have failed render them objects of ridicule in the religious world?

WHY do they continue to shun former followers and insist that their blood relatives do likewise when this policy clearly has disastrous psychological fall-out?

WHY do they continue to enforce a Blood policy that causes the needless deaths of innocent people when it is clearly unscriptural?

And WHY do they continue to cover up the child abuse within their organisation only obeying Ceasars Law when it suits them, or they are forced to?

And should they acknowledge their error, will they make the most profuse and abject apology to all those Witnesses and former Witnesses the world over who have needlessly suffered because of the Watchtower policies that have no Scriptural backing?

HA! The Watchtower apologise? Oh look... a flying pink pig...

I have a question regarding the blood issue that I need some advice about.

First some background:

As you may be aware, a husband and wife are regarded as each others next of kin. Therefore in a medical emergency the permission of the husband will be sought to administer any medical treatment in the event of the wife being unconscious and vice versa.

For example in June 1997 following the premature birth of my second daughter, my wife had severe complications after the childbirth and lapsed into unconsciousness. To cut a long story short she required a blood transfusion and (as I had gone home by this point) the doctors telephoned me for my authorisation to transfuse. I immediately gave the medical staff my full permission to carry out any and all procedures necessary to ensure my wife’s well being.

Upon my arrival at the hospital I enquired why in particular they had asked me for permission for a blood transfusion. They stated they hesitated to carry out a transfusion because her medical notes stated that she was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses blah blah blah.. and although the last reference to the JW’s was the late 80's, they were just checking with next of kin to respect her wishes. I would point out here that her condition that evening was life threatening and I was told by the doctors that had they been unable to get hold of me they would have gone ahead with a transfusion anyway.

Skip forward to a few weeks ago and I am at my doctor on a minor matter. I have moved to a new area recently and my new doctor states quite innocently “Oh, I see you are one of Jehovah’s Witnesses”. I quickly put him right on this but he states that I will need something on my medical file that will reflect this, and more importantly, despite my being a legal adult, prevent those family member, most specifically my parents, who are currently JW’s from trying to force their views on any medical staff regarding the blood issue.

So my question is this.

Taking the hypothetical situation that my wife and I are rendered unconscious in a road accident.

The medical staff need to administer a blood transfusion. What information can I place on my medical file and that of my wife and children to ensure that any members of our families who are Jehovah’s Witnesses can have absolutely NO input whatsoever to what medical treatment is given?

Does it require any legal documentation? Also in the event that a husband/wife are unconscious at the same time with children as described in the scenario above, who constitutes next of kin?

You may feel that such a situation is highly unlikely, but I would never have dreamed the circumstances at the birth of my daughter in 1997 would arise, so the chances of it happening are there, however remote.

I would appreciate any advice please.
